Fool No Longer in First Impressions
First impressions occur everywhere. At home. At work. At a restaurant. We prove this point in the April issue of Mass Appeal Magazine. Our contributors cover it all, from a change in the workplace to date etiquette to a star on the rise; it’s time to say “Hello, it’s lovely to meet you.” First impressions are also about receiving. We forget this all too often. Be a fool no longer.
Career First Impressions
Let’s begin with April’s ‘Transferable.’ Andrea Perry’s layoff could have gone much differently. Her first impression of the work world was teaching. However, Perry quickly realized the skills she acquired transformed her life and resume. Perry would learn that health and wellness coaching was a natural progression. Perry’s time as a teacher was no foolish choice within her journey. Andrea Perry is quick learner, flexible worker and more because of it.
Now, it’s time to welcome actor Bilal Biag warmly. Baig is the star highlighted in our ‘On the Rise’ section, written by Adesudar Sanan. Baig is a genderqueer Muslim actor best known for their role in the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company) comedy series Sort Of. They are the show’s lead, co-creator, and co-writer. And they’re just getting started. Expect to see barriers broken and the media landscape changed for the better.
Meet and Greets
We all hope to embark on good dates. Despite this positivity, it’s hard to bat one hundred. Therefore, Chris Gillis is here to advise us on navigating bad dates. Gillis is a seasoned relationship coach. For over a decade, Gillis has been helping men and women transform unproductive dating lives. He has forged many long-lasting, deep connections. He wants those on the cringey dinner date to feel at ease with his tips. Feel less awkward. Embrace kindness. Find love.
Meanwhile, Shri Ganeshram handles a different sort of first impression-related issue. His ‘925’ piece helps young people stand out despite minimal real-world experience. Ganeshram reassures those stressed regarding their careers. It may feel like a first impression during an interview will go poorly. However, the meeting can go smoothly with Ganeshram’s professional advice.
The Gift of Meeting
We end our ‘first impressions’ pieces with ‘910.’ Olivia Lin chronicles a personal story about a chance encounter with a person from a different socioeconomic status than her. Lin notes how her conversation changed his outlook on life and brought about a friendship. He was no fool after that. Find that common ground together.
