The Confidence Boost of Friendship

Friendship is our focus not just this month, but all year long.

Friendship boosts our confidence. Meanwhile, confidence improves our friendships. We explore this phenomenon in the November 2023 issue of Mass Appeal Magazine. It’s seen in our emotions, words and even the gym. The writers outline the correlation heavily. Their varied experiences back up their claims and statements. Grow stronger this month.

Emotions For All

Jacqueline O’Leary-Mihlfeld starts us off in ‘Bulletproof.’ She details her own experiences with friends attacking her self-esteem. Through this, she found a way to stand strong. And then to begin anew. O’Leary-Mihlfeld notes, people who hurt rather than give constructive criticism are not true friends. Take note of her lessons.

After examining your own friendships, you may find it’s time to let one go. This is examined further in ‘Surrender.’ Olivia Pelts contributes this November. Pelts makes the case for surrendering in all aspects of friendships. Allow to let on go. Get vulnerable with those you trust. Yield to the mirror that friendship offers.

Then comes Tony Cuviello’s story in ‘Inside Out.’ Cuviello makes friends with himself. After years of navigating anger management, Cuviello found a peaceful path. His mind finally outranked the anger. Learn from his history.

Friendship is The Word

“Moral Code” navigates the murky waters of ‘tough love.’ Luckily, our captain is Kristen O’Kelly, a licensed therapist. O’Kelly offers her professional advice on difficult conversations with friends. Stay grounded and express love. Note her tips on wording and how to prepare before and heal after.

The magazine’s ultimate ode to ‘words of affirmation’ is ‘Affirm.’ Theresa McGallicher provides various affirmative sentences for the good and bad days. Speaking kindly to oneself allows for kindness towards others. Speaking confidently allows for a confident presence.

Shared Gym Membership, Anyone?

For our last piece, Mary-Ellen Sabat gets readers and their friends pumped. Sabat details an extensive partner workout. Sweating it out with others can improve our entire workout and well-being. Cheer on your friends doing push-ups, while they clap for your squat count. Feel the energy together. Confidence is just around the corner.
