July Rolls With A Laissez-Faire Attitude
For the month of July, Mass Appeal Magazine is letting it all go just in time for the carefree months of summer. The French term, ‘laissez-faire’ translates to ‘let it be’ in English and is our driving theme this July. Often used in the context of politics, this month’s Mass Appeal wants to spread it amongst all aspects of life, including the enrichment of the self.
Sometimes letting it all be means leaving it behind. In “Bulletproof”, Calley Hewes learns how to navigate a post-breakdown existence. Even though the initial pain was over, the growth that it took for Hewes to find a new, more grounded path was not a linear journey.
Meanwhile, Alvin Wei let it go and his pride along with it. In “Inside Out,” Wei eases the anxieties his mind through practice, education and accepting the fact that the first therapist one finds, does not need to be the last. Readers who may struggle with their own mental health will find solace in Wei’s words.
Similar sentiments can be found in Nickia Lowery’s “Surrender” piece. Lowery writes to support trauma victims and is a licensed, professional counselor. Lowery states, “It’s important not to be afraid to ask for help. No one can walk the healing journey but the survivor, themselves, but they do not have to do it alone.”
Laissez-faire’s association with politics brings forth David Conway’s “Moral Code”. However, Conway urges the opposite of letting go should be done when it comes to educating oneself on global politics. Conway writes that one’s relationship to political knowledge is unique and should be done so with care.
Sasha Jackson inspires in “Affirm” with her words of empowerment. Jackson’s piece is perfect for readers to print out and hang up on their bathroom mirrors as part of their daily ritual for self-love.
Sit back and relax and read the full pieces in Mass Appeal Magazine.
