Duality Found in the Master Plan

Find comfort in the duality of life.

Duality is anything but negative. Just because it involves two opposing forces, doesn’t mean the forces are enemies. Duality is about coming together. Honoring the light and dark within. The fact that black and white make grey. The June 2024 issue of Mass Appeal Magazine explores this. Our writers share their personal experiences with dualism and the master plan. From professional careers to inner work, duality is everywhere. Relish the grey area.

Duality in the Office

First, entrepreneurship gets the star treatment. Ben Austin details his career story in ‘Art of the Game.’ Austin went from selling lemonade to banking to marketing. It never appeared like a linear path. There was even a major pandemic ready to shake things up. But that didn’t stop Ben Austin. Revel in resilience.

Then comes another professional tale. Wendy Wang’s ‘Blueprint’ champions duality. Wang credits the concept for her success. It underlies her function as both a businesswoman and a consumer. This helps Wang stand in the customer’s shoes while also knowing the practicalities of doing business. Duality also appeared in the strategic alignment between the international trade perspective and home needs. Wang details it all out for those looking to build their own business.

Get inspired with June’s ‘I Can.’ Opera singer Robin Hahn cannot be stopped no matter the obstacle. Hahn was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder while building her singing career. The condition is both chronic and incurable. For a moment, it slowed Hahn down. Then she pivoted. Hahn kept opera in her life without the hustle. She took care of her body and mind.

Life’s ‘Yeses’ and ‘Nos’

Our world unfolds sometimes. But Diane Bruno didn’t let it stop her. Bruno tells of her story in ‘A Thin Line.’ A physical injury on the job altered it all. Bruno took time to think about what mattered. In a world that often emphasizes the dichotomy between what’s new and experienced, Bruno found a profession that values and celebrates life experience.

Lastly, ‘Arrested Development’ inspires. Melissa Lyons was at a crossroads at the age of 47. Even with a loving family, good health, and stable career, something was off. Lyons began a deep search for contentment. A sabbatical changed it all. There she found value in her duality.
