Transition From First Impression to Friendship

Make that first impression last to build friendships.

Friendship can emerge anywhere. Stores, workplaces, and schools are all game. Friends can also come in the form of artwork and skills, not just people. This November, the contributors of Mass Appeal Magazine are here to prove this point. Regardless of one’s stage of life, remember, some of our best friendships began with a good first impression. Now cozy up with a soft blanket and get to reading. It’s the season after all.

A First Impression to a Lasting Impression

‘Savoir Faire’ keeps us humble in preparation for Black Friday. Certified etiquette expert, Lisa Mirza Grotts emphasizes kindness toward retail workers. Grotts brings up the Golden Rule when it comes to store etiquette. Be kind, thoughtful and patient. With the state of manners these days, empathy toward a retail worker can brighten their day.

For those looking for inspiration, look to ‘On the Rise.’ Heidi Johnson celebrates artist Mary Lai. A Los Angeles-based, Lai has a layered story. From working in fashion houses to showcasing her art in major cities across the globe, Lai is one to watch.

Dr. Charlene Walters takes the reins in ‘Transferable.’ Walters cites empathy and resilience as the pillars of her success. She details their power in work and home life, respectively. She repeatedly illustrates the positive state these two qualities place her and others in. Give them a try this month.

Strangers in Passing to Friendship

Makes friends at work with ‘925.’ Written by Ashleigh Edelstein, LMFT, who is a licensed therapist in Austin, Texas, specializing in anxious young adults. Edelstein walks young people through making friends through the workplace. A different environment from school can appear daunting to many. However, a social life is possible with Edelstein’s tips.

Finally, the first impression of two now-friends gets the spotlight in ‘910.’ From unfriendly acquaintances to neighbors, life has a funny way of bringing two people together. Ginny Priem and her friend’s cinematic tale rivals those of onscreen romances. The backstory of friendship can be just as beautiful.
