Finding Balance in All First Impressions

Wade through the forest of first impressions with us this October.

Mass Appeal Magazine continues the conversation on balance this October. The contributors to this issue apply the concept to first impressions. How can one show level headedness upon an initial meeting? We show you. These articles apply to those of all ages, at all stages. Change careers, demonstrate manners and follow an unconventional path. And do so with a balanced mind.

The Balance of Youth

To begin, Dr. Allison Buskirk prepares students in “925.” As the school year recently began, this topic feels incredibly relevant. Buskirk is the Director of the Honors Program at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, PA. She is also a faculty member in the Psychology Department. Buskirk writes on the balancing act of school, work and social life. She advises busy students to juggle and prioritize. Her tips come with extensive knowledge. Buskirk has written a couple of books on student life.

We twist the conversation with “On The Rise.” Lisa Sass introduces readers to the queer band, Afterbirth Cartoons. The group is a steady explosion of sardonic beat punk from Phoenix, Arizona. Sass chronicles the band’s influences and plans for the future.

Then comes Mallory Stock’s story in “910.” Stock pushes against the traditional path when it comes to a post-graduate life. Stock discusses the hardships of going against one’s family. The strength to move forward in a new direction is at the heart of Stock’s story. Learn how she leaned into the work-life balance.

Adulthood’s Stability

Meanwhile, Nooria Khan details the importance of balance in a tech-focused career. In ‘Transferable,’ Khan credits stability in the workplace for increased stability at home. Khan names an empathic attitude, adaptive behavior, and effective communication as the most crucial aspects of this life. In work and life, technology doesn’t have to be all consuming.

Finally, ‘Savoir Faire’ rounds out our ‘first impressions’ pieces. Event planner and lifestyle blogger, Annemarie Schumacher is our contributor this October. Schumacher advises readers on RSVP 101. She acknowledges the changing times has altered the practice. However, her tips allow readers to respond in ways that feel comfortable and appropriate. Be the best invitee after reading this piece.
