How does one look put together with laissez-faire in mind? Some may say it’s impossible, arguing that the right outfit, skincare, hair, and makeup all need to be well thought out. This July, Mass Appeal Magazine proves that point wrong, with some caveats. With the help of stylish, skincare-obsessed, knowledgeable contributors we show our readers the best ways to look carefree to feel carefree.  

For July’s ‘Threads,’ writer Raluca Oita takes us to the beach for inspiration. She writes, “As we embark on the second month of the sun-kissed summer, it’s only natural to yearn for the cool and casual allure of coastal fashion.” If you’ve watched a Nancy Meyers movie or The Little Mermaid, you know you’re already on board.  

Contributor Adina Mahalli translates this trend to the hair in this month’s ‘Hair Affair.’ Mahalli shows readers the best way to get that effortless ‘mermaid hair’ just like Ariel.

For the men looking to elevate themselves with minimal effort, Jamie Irwin suggests the heightening one’s scent in ‘Grooming Lounge.’ Irwin offers recommendations on scented body washes, lotions, gels and of course, cologne. His comprehensive guide is not to be missed, especially during such a sweaty time of year.  

A man who almost definitely smells good is Idris Elba, one of our ‘Style Icons’ this month. Effie Asafu-Adjaye spotlights Elba and Lupita Nyong’o. Asafu-Adjaye writes about the two actors’ balance of fashion through their glamorous red carpet looks to their casual everyday wear.  

A designer well-versed in that off-duty look is Isabel Marant. For ‘Atelier,’ John Smith celebrates Marant’s work, and how she captures laissez-faire with her pieces. Mimic her French looks with the help of Smith’s article.  

Furthermore, if you don’t often find yourself shopping in the ‘designer section,’ but do have a backyard party to attend, flip to Brian Lim’s piece. In ‘Dress Code,’ Lim admits, “It can be intimidating to figure out the right look.” However, with his tips and tricks, Lim will have any reader looking and feeling comfortable for a grill out, birthday or summertime celebration.
