The Gorgeous Flow of Fashion and Beauty

Rejoice! It's blueberry season!

The goal in beauty and fashion is always to find a flow. The right makeup blend. The proper swoop of the hair. The perfect outfit. These all suggest a certain level of flow. This is what the May 2024 edition of Mass Appeal Magazine wants to help you achieve. Our expert writers are here to keep you looking good for the sunny days ahead. May the flow come naturally with our guidance.

Bask In the Warmth

To start with some fun, read May’s ‘Atelier.’ Tracy Keyser covers California native Andréa Bernholtz’s swimwear brand, Swiminista. Bernholtz wanted to make beach-ready wear that was both supportive and stylish. Swiminista values body-positivity and eco-friendly practices. Be sure to get that backstroke flowing with one of their suits.

The bright days of May bring blueberry season. The antioxidant-rich fruit is highlighted in ‘Beauty Bar.’ Dr. Anju Methil provides a refreshing Blueberry Mojito recipe. The skincare expert goes on to also detail a lip scrub and face mask involves the fruit. For those wanting an alcoholic-free beverage, Ciria Rhoads offers her Blueberry-Ultima Bliss Mocktail. These are all perfect ways to pamper yourself on a warm afternoon this spring.

Into The Flow

Then comes the hair to focus on. In this month’s ‘Hair Affair’ Tamika S. wants to get us growing and flowing. She chronicles the best ways to grow out one’s hair. It doesn’t matter if you have curly or straight or way. Shower smart. Sleep with mindful practices. Brush kindly. And your locks will prosper.

Now that’s it’s concert season, it’s time to let the music flow. But what to wear? That is the question. Luckily Emily Konatella is here with outfit guidance in ‘Dress Code.’ No matter the genre of music, look your best. Remember to keep the footwear smart to allow for dancing around.

The Practice of Flow

For men, spring to summer transitional looks can be confusing. ‘Grooming Lounge’ is here to help answer any questions. Clothing brand founder, Will Watters is our contributor for this piece. Watters focuses on layers, accessories, and shoes. It’s all about accounting for heat even with a nice breeze.

For those ‘skincare’ obsessed read May’s ‘Skinn.’ The art of the gua sha tool is covered this month. Alyssa Isogawa contributes tips and tricks to utilize this holistic approach to enhancing the skin’s health and appearance. One can purchase a jade or rose quartz gua sha just about anywhere now. Gain all the benefits of this practice after reading.

Once the skin is set, it’s time for the makeup. That’s why we turn to beauty expert Harman Awal. In ‘Face,’ Awal discusses blending techniques. Make your foundation look flawless. Combine eye shadow with ease. Look naturally bronzed even before the summer. A good blend changes your makeup game.

May’s Inspo

The spring breeze inspires this month’s ‘Threads.’ Award-winning style coach, Angela Haynes-Ranger takes the reins here. From styles to fabrics, there are so many ways to create flow in one’s wardrobe. Think ruffles and satin. Trying out her suggested looks are sure to get you compliments. She even suggests looking to certain bohemian style icons for inspiration.

Lastly, the icons of flow keep coming. This month’s ‘Style Icon’ sees actors Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson. Their breakout roles came from the 2018 indie film Sorry to Bother You. Liis Hainla states, “The entertainment and fashion world hasn’t been the same since.” Both Stanfield and Thompson stand out on any red carpet or street corner. Try out their looks for the ultimate cool factor.
